Khanezia & Jay’Da’s Story

When Khanezia and Jay’Da first met, they had no idea that their friendship would evolve into a powerful support system through their journey in Catholic Charities Fort Worth’s Education Navigation Program.

Both students at NCTC-Gainesville, they faced the setback of failing their second semester in the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. With their confidence shaken, they had a choice: give up or start over. Khanezia, a single mother working part-time at a tile shop, had already joined the Education Navigation Program, determined to create a better future for her family. Jay’Da, who was working full-time at Buc-ee’s to support her mother and younger siblings, was devastated by her setback. After hearing about the program from Khanezia, she decided to join as well.

Their shared Navigator, Lisa, became a vital source of support, guiding them through retaking their classes, managing their anxiety, and keeping them focused on their goals. The two women became study partners and supported each other emotionally throughout their journey. They maintained daily contact, encouraging one another on their long drives to campus and helping each other push through the toughest moments.

In May, Khanezia and Jay’Da both graduated from NCTC. They now work side by side at the same hospital, where they earn $66,000 a year, a testament to their hard work and determination. Together, they are not just shaping their own destinies; they are creating a legacy of hope and inspiration for their families, proving that dreams can truly come true.

Their success, made possible by Catholic Charities’ Education Navigation Program, highlights how the right guidance and support can help students overcome failure and achieve their dreams
