What’s happening?

There is an asylum-seekers crisis currently underway across the United States. There is an overflow of families and individuals entering Border States and a need to move some of these families across the United States.

We have readied and made ourselves available (should we be called upon) to the city of Fort Worth and Tarrant County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), of which CCFW serves as chair. We have not yet been asked to serve outside of our daily operations already in place. With arrivals across the border slowing down, it may delay our involvement.

What is our role and why do we serve?

We’ve been doing this for a long time. We have been resettling and assisting people fleeing violence since 1975, from many countries around the world, depending on where war and persecution was happening at the time. We will continue to live out our mission by serving those in need, regardless of their nationality.

We are not a partisan organization; our job is to serve the people we are called to serve who are coming to our diocese. We always work within all laws of the land and in cooperation with local, state, and federal authorities.

Our Faith

We are committed to helping asylum-seekers because of our beliefs, regardless of creed or ethnicity. We do this because of our call to welcome the stranger (Matthew 25).

We abide by Catholic Social Teaching, which instructs us that we as the faithful have the duty to welcome the foreigner out of charity and respect for the human person.

How can you help?

With the ongoing asylum crisis at the border, we are actively preparing to serve asylum-seekers that may be arriving in Fort Worth. There has not yet been a declaration of emergency funding, which means funds are not available on a government level to support these expected efforts. In anticipation of serving these families, we need donations to ensure we are fully-funded and ready to hit the ground running.

Can you donate today and help us answer the call as a community?

In the “Notes” section of the Donation page, type “help asylee seekers.” Should there be a change of plans, please know your funds will be used to serve many families on their journeys out of poverty.
