Welcoming the Stranger

Honoring Stories of Strength. Building Futures Together

Since the fall of Vietnam, Catholic Charities Fort Worth has helped thousands of refugees rebuild their lives in safety and hope. From 2020 to 2025 more than 4,500 refugees were resettled in Tarrant county — solidifying Fort Worth’s place as a cornerstone of Texas’s proud leadership in refugee resettlement.

These individuals and families have fled war, persecution, and displacement. They have endured the unimaginable—and they are rebuilding right here in our community.

They are parents. Workers. Students. Neighbors.

They bring with them resilience, skills, culture, and hope.

People like Farid, who fled Afghanistan years ago and endured years in a detainment center before arriving in the U.S. With the help of Catholic Charities Fort Worth, Farid secured employment, obtained his legal documents, and sent life-saving support to his wife and children still in Afghanistan.

Like the 295 Afghan evacuees welcomed after the fall of Kabul in 2021, many arriving with little to no notice, carrying only memories of loved ones left behind. CCFW provided immediate housing, food, legal services, and, perhaps most importantly, compassion in the midst of crisis.

And like the Tishutin family, who fled the war in Ukraine seeking safety and stability. Resettled in Fort Worth, they worked closely with their Catholic Charities case manager, Amy, to find housing, secure employment, and access resources that helped them move from survival to self-sufficiency — a testament to what’s possible when courage meets community.

The Journey You Don’t See

At Catholic Charities Fort Worth, we know what it takes to rebuild a life from the ground up. Since 2020:

  • More than 3,536 refugees received cultural orientation to navigate life in their new community.
  • 636 families were placed in safe, stable housing within their first weeks in Fort Worth.
  • 1,444 job placements were secured for refugees starting new careers and futures in North Texas.

Still Standing. Still Serving.

Catholic Charities Fort Worth is proud to walk alongside refugees as they rebuild their lives in a new land. From cultural orientation and housing to employment services and youth programs, our support doesn’t stop once they arrive—it grows with them.

As long as there is a need, we are still here to serve.

Because together, we are relentlessly ending poverty — ensuring refugees have the resources, opportunities, and support they need to build their bigger, brighter futures.
