On June 4, more than 120 leaders from across Philadelphia and beyond gathered at Billy Penn Studios for Xiente’s 2026 Prosperity Breakfast, an event dedicated to one important question:

What does it really take for families to achieve lasting economic mobility?

Presented by Truist, the sold-out event brought together corporate executives, philanthropists, financial institutions, community organizations, and civic leaders for a powerful conversation about breaking the cycle of poverty and creating pathways to prosperity.

Honoring Leadership and Looking Ahead

The morning included a special recognition of Dr. Michelle Carrera for six years of transformational leadership. Dr. Carrera received the Exceptional Leadership and Dedicated Service to Xiente Award in honor of her commitment to expanding economic mobility initiatives throughout Philadelphia.

Attendees also welcomed Interim CEO Félix Quiñones, who shared his vision for the next chapter of Xiente’s work.

Economic Mobility Requires More Than Short-Term Assistance

Moderated by Sarah Glover, Vice President of News and Civic Dialogue at WHYY, the panel featured:

  • Félix Quiñones, Interim CEO of Xiente
  • Soneyet Muhammad, Episcopal Community Services
  • Olivia Montana, South Hills Interfaith Movement
  • Brendan Perry, Director of Padua National at Catholic Charities Fort Worth

Throughout the discussion, panelists emphasized that lasting change requires more than temporary assistance. Building economic mobility depends on trust, long-term relationships, individualized support, and the ability to help families navigate setbacks along the way.

Meeting Families Where They Are

Quiñones explained that many individuals initially seek financial guidance but often reveal deeper challenges such as domestic violence, legal issues, or other barriers that must be addressed first.

“Helping families move toward prosperity begins with trust,” he noted. Once that foundation is built, people can begin addressing the many factors that influence long-term stability.

The Power of Financial Coaching

Panelist Olivia Montana shared how coaching helps participants build confidence and develop practical financial skills over time.

Rather than solving problems for families, coaches walk alongside them, helping individuals establish goals, eliminate debt, prepare for emergencies, and create realistic plans for the future.

Many families are operating from a constant stress response, she explained. Effective coaching helps participants break down goals into manageable steps and regain confidence in their ability to move forward.

Building Pathways to Prosperity

In recent years, Xiente has expanded its efforts through initiatives such as:

  • The Prosperity Project, which provides personalized support and economic mobility coaching.
  • Guaranteed Income, offering selected families monthly cash payments.
  • Mi Casa, an affordable housing initiative designed to provide a stable foundation for long-term growth.

Together, these programs are helping families move beyond survival toward sustainable financial independence.

A Shared Commitment to Economic Mobility

The Prosperity Breakfast served as a reminder that prosperity is not a single moment, but a journey. Lasting economic mobility is built through relationships, opportunity, support, and the belief that every family deserves the chance to dream bigger.

As Xiente continues its mission, the conversations and partnerships formed during the 2026 Prosperity Breakfast point toward a future where more families can move from stability to prosperity.
