Catholic Charities USA is pleased to initiate a national poverty summit bringing together national leaders, local experts, practitioners, volunteers, advocates, academics and others to advance the work that needs to be done to reduce poverty in America and in our world.

The Poverty Summit strives to:

• Inspire active participation in a national movement to reduce poverty in America.

• Re-imagine the way America addresses poverty.

• Strategically identify, design, and implement innovative and measurable tactics towards the common goal of reducing poverty in America.


Speakers and Special Guests

Colleen C. Barrett is currently President Emeritus of Southwest Airlines Co., a high-frequency, low-fare, point-to-point airline which prides itself in its excellent Customer Service qualities. Prior to stepping down as the Company’s President on July 15, 2008, she oversaw management, leadership, and budget responsibilities. Recently, Colleen co-authored the book Lead with LUV: A Different Way to Create Success with Ken Blanchard (2010).

Andrea Levere has led the Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED) as its president since 2004, sharing in its mission of building assets and expanding economic opportunity for low-income people and disadvantaged communities through matched savings, entrepreneurship, and affordable housing. Nan Roman is a leading national voice on the issue of homelessness. The Alliance is a national nonprofit and nonpartisan organization whose sole mission is preventing and ending homelessness. Under Ms. Roman’s direction, the Alliance seeks to achieve its mission by researching, capacity building, and educating opinion leaders and policymakers,. It works with over 10,000 partner organizations and agencies across the nation.

Rev. Larry Snyder took the helm in February 2005 of Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA)—the national office of more than 1,700 local Catholic Charities agencies and institutions nationwide. These agencies provide help and create hope for more than 9.25 million people a year, regardless of their religious, social, or economic backgrounds.
